GLASGOW AQUACULTURE AND FISHING EXHIBITION

Mussel Farming.

As a participant of a joint Government and Industry Falkland Island Mussel Farming Group, Falklands Fresh Ltd have recently returned from visiting mussel related industries in Scotland, Shetland and Ireland ending at the Glasgow Aquaculture and Fishing Exhibition in June 2004  primarily to gain knowledge for the potential development of large scale mussel farming in the Falkland Islands.

Falklands Fresh are currently expanding their mussel farming site at Goose Green using the “Xplora” Rope System and have quantities of natural spatted rope grown mussels ready for processing in August 2004.

Shellfish testing is being upgraded with the inclusion of on the spot “Jellett” test analysis for instant detection presence of potential ASP and PSP toxic algae.

Our inshore fishing operations are continuing with a major contract for the Military Forces to be renewed / extended at the end of September 2004 when another full EU inspection will be completed to comply with our current HACCP and EU status at our processing factory in Stanley.

Falklands Fresh has also engaged a professional promotional / sales person in the UK to help develop our export potential. Supply contracts are currently being negotiated with large international buyers.
