Falklands Mussels

Falklands Mussels (mytilus chilensis) common name Blue Mussel.

Size range >5cm in length.

Status:- Grown on modern floats and ladder system and reared from natural settlement.

Live in shell, cooked and packed in half shell in 5kg boxes.  

Shellfish are currently under C.E.F.A.S. biotoxin testing contract.

 

Falklands Oysters

Falklands Oysters (Ostra Malvinas)

Scientific name: Crassotrea gigas.

Common name: Pacific oyster (UK), Ostra japonesa o del Pacifico (Spain).

Size range: 60-100g.

Status: Grown in tidal creeks in nutrient rich, pollution-free Waters in East and West  Falklands. 

Live, in-shell, or canned in olive oil.

Falklands Snow Crab  (Centollon de Malvinas)

Scientific name: Paralomis granulosa.

Common name: Snow crab (UK), Centollon (Spain).

Size range: Carapace width 9cm-16cm.

Status: Caught in pots in shallow in-shore waters to the south of the Falkland Islands. 

Cooked, shelled and processed to pure natural meat with no additives or preservatives.

bulletAbundant resource barely exploited in Falkland waters.
bulletReady to serve- straight from the pack.
 

Packaging and presentation

bulletFresh - to EU standards and chilled to 0-2 degrees Centigrade during shipment.  Despatched in hygienically sealed plastic packs, export packed in wax-lined cardboard boxes.
bulletFrozen to EU standards to a temperature of -33 degrees Centigrade.  Despatched in hygienically sealed plastic packs, export packed in wax-lined cardboard boxes.
bulletIndividual pack sizes of 250g or 500g, gross weight of 4.5kg - 8kg per box.
bullet8kg block packed, wrapped in plastic and packed in wax-lined boxes for export.

Antarctic Rock Cod  (Robalito)

Scientific name:  Eleginops maclovinus (Family Nototheneildae).

Common name: Antarctic Rock Cod (UK), Robalito (Spain), Dairin-noto (Japan).

Size range: 50cm - 120cm.

Status:  Inshore  caught by beach seining in natural un-polluted waters around the Falkland Islands.

Fine textured white fish with similar characteristics to Hake (Merluza Meru) and Toothfish (Merluza Negra).

Packaging and Presentation

bulletIndividually wrapped skin-off fillets weighing 300-1500 grammes each.
bulletIndividually wrapped head and gutted weighing 1000-2500 grammes.

 

bulletFrozen to EU standards to -33 degrees Centigrade.  Despatched individually wrapped in plastic, in wax-lined cardboard boxes with gross weight of 10-15 kgs per box.
bulletFresh to EU standards and chilled to 0-2 degrees Centigrade during shipment.  Individually wrapped in plastic in wax-lined boxes, with gross weight 10-5 kgs per box.
 

 

Falklands Smoked Fish

Smoked Fish Trout:  Wild fish caught locally feeding off natural krill in the nutrient rich waters of the South Atlantic Ocean. They are smoked using traditional hardwood sawdusts and are sliced by hand to produce the perfect product.

Smoked Antarctic Rock Cod: These fish are beach seine netted and are then processed by hand to the highest standard.  Brined and smoked using traditional methods to produce a delicate flavour not to be missed.
