CATCON 2003 CONFERENCE BIRMINGHAM ENGLAND

attended by Simon Hardcastle and Connie Stevens 7th-8th April 2003

We were invited to participate in this conference to promote Falklands Fresh Limited as a current supplier of top quality frozen fish to the military forces, with a professional approach and reliable and consistent supply record.  With the corporate support of parent company, Golden Touza Limited, we are also able to supply various types of frozen/shellfish products with the prospects of increasing frozen fish sales not only to the military forces at Mount Pleasant Airport (MPA) but also into their world-wide catering network.

The two day conference was based on military catering and supplies, to not only the British troops but also other European countries including France, who demonstrated much interest in the Falklands.  There were some 260 delegates and although classed as a small conference/ exhibition, it covered topics such as specific food supplies, ration packs, quality control and despatch and provided exhibition space for commercial companies currently supplying the military forces, contracts, methods of payment etc.

The Falklands Fresh stand was situated at the entrance to the conference hall and proved very popular, being visited by most delegates including the senior Brigadier - Jeff Little - Director Defence Catering Group.  Many of the administration representatives from the Defence Group Headquarters also attended, including some who had visited the processing plant at Gordon Lines in the Falklands - the factory was passed upon inspection both for this year and the previous.

Since this conference and exhibition Mount Pleasant has contacted Falklands Fresh Limited to increase their current monthly orders for frozen Antarctic Rock Cod fillets to supply the military forces there.  Falklands Fresh will then be providing 40% of all fish consumed at MPA.  This is seen as a positive step and the beginning of a much larger export supply into the world-wide military network of other fish species.

With Falklands Fresh having a significant presence at the CATCON 2003 Conference much discussion eschewed and it provided the delegates a unique talking point.  Contact was made with a high proportion of the delegates and an invaluable insight was acquired into the workings of the military catering group.
